Honey Balls

Fired dough balls, soaked in honey and covered in sprinles
Course: Dessert

Ingredients
  

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp Wesson oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 orange for zest & juice
  • 16 oz. honey
  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 jar non-pareil sprinkles

Equipment

  • slotted, mesh spoon
  • Deep frying pan

Method
 

  1. Mix eggs, oil, salt, and sugar. Then add flour and baking powder—Knead dough on a floured surface. Roll out into a thin tube, then cut into small pieces with a butter knife, then roll into balls between the palms of your hand. Heat up oil in a pan- enough to cover the balls. Once the oil has been heated, drop in batches of dough balls. Use a slotted or mesh spoon and turn the balls in the oil to ensure even frying. Once thoroughly fried, transfer to a plate with paper towels to soak up any excess oil. Repeat this process until all the dough balls have been fried.
    In a separate pan. Heat up the honey, add the juice and zest of the orange stir to mix. Pour the heated mixture over friethe d honey balls and mix to coat. Transfer onto a plate with a paper doily, arrange in a cone-like shape, add sprinkles, and enjoy!
