Getting Started: Essentials for Customizing Champagne Bottles
Before diving into the design process, gather the necessary supplies and information:
- Champagne Bottles: Miniatures like La Marca Prosecco are crowd favorites for their chic appearance and manageable size. Or you can use the regular size for a more impactful display, either way you will need a champagne label template
- Printable Champagne Label Templates: These are ready-made designs made specifically for the Lamarca label for size & color. you can easily customize it with names, dates, and graphics. Check out my Etsy store for my ready-made customizable champagne templates that can be edited in Canva.
- High-Quality Adhesive Paper: Printable sticker sheets ensure your labels stick firmly without smudging. I like to use waterproof paper so that when there is condensation on the bottle it does not peel.
- Cutting Tools: Scissors or a paper trimmer ensure a precise fit for your labels.
Supplies for Custom Champagne bottles

- Printable Vinyl Sticker Paper for Inkjet & Laser Printer -34 Sheets Self-Adhesive Sheets Matte White Waterproof, Dries Quickly Vivid Colors, Holds Ink well- Tear Resistant.
- Metallic ribbon– This comes in 35 color combos 50 yards each spool so that you can decorate multiple bottles. I used a similar ribbon on my mini bottles that I decoupaged. This makes for a finished bottle.
- Half Flatback Pearls Gems for Crafts– These half-flat pearls are perfect to finish off where the label meets the bottle for a theme right finish.
- Floral Napkins-Spring Disposable Paper Napkins Vintage Rose, when opened all 4 prints are on each napkin. open the napkin and make sure you remove the second white ply. You will only need the floral printed one.
- Mod Podge– This medium glues the tissue flowers onto the bottle. I used a satin finish, however it also comes in matte and gloss. Use a sponge brush and paint on the area that you want to place a paper flower on. Once this is done place the flower on top if the wet area then press down. Apply another coat over the flower. This will seal it to the bottle and dry clear.
- Liquitex BASICS Acrylic Paint– Coats the glass bottles in 2 to 3 coats. You can also use a light sanding sponge to smooth any ridges. You can use any acrylic paint, do not add any water just paint it onto the bottles.
- Poly Foam Paint Brushes-1 Inch Sponge Brushes for Painting, Paint Sponges Set, use straight edge to paint close to label edge
- Blue Painters Tape– Use this to cover all levels before painting to protect labels.
- contact paper Another option is to cover and protect labels before painting.
- White Organza Wine Bags-Finish off your decorated custom champagne bottles with these sheer Mesh Wine Gift Pouches Bottle Covers. They cinch at the top
- Drywall Sanding Sponge, Fine/Medium Grits- not necessary but can smooth any rough paint job for a more finished look—sand between coats.

Directions for these decoupage bottles
- Use a room-temperature bottle that doesn’t have condensation, you do not want to work with a wet bottle so that it isn’t wet when you start decorating.
- Wipe down the bottle for any dust or dirt.
- Use painter’s tape or contact paper to cover and protect the labels, This will be peeled off after you paint the bottles.
- With a small sponge brush, apply acrylic white paint, do not add water to the paint. Paint one coat, let fully dry then add one or two more coats for full coverage. Let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next coat to avoid lifting semi-dry paint off the bottle.
- Peel off painter’s tape, or contact paper off of the labels.
- If you are using a napkin, remove the 2 ply and only use the one printed sheet. Cut floral icons out to what you desire.
- Mod-podge the bottle in the areas where you would like to place a flower. Then place a floral piece, press down lightly, and then brush over with an additional Mod Podge. This will have a milky appearance but will dry clear with the desired finish. (matte, glossy, etc).
- Add premade custom labels. You can purchase them here on my Etsy Shop.
- Finishing touches, like ribbon, mesh, pearls, or even rhinestones. Anything that you feel will make your custom prosecco bottles special for your occasion.

Products used for this project
Use this printer paper for more water-resistant options when printing labels for your champagne labels.
This is a similar ribbon that I used on my bottles, however, you can also use any type of trim that will compliment your project and color story.
Decoupaging Prosecco bottles I used these fun floral napkins, I separated the back so that they would be one-ply. This is why you paint the bottle so that it shows up on the glass.
A package of sponge brushes will last a long time if you wash it with soap and water. These also come in many sizes depending on your project
Mod Podge is what we use to decoupage paper onto things, in this case, our champagne bottles. This comes in a variety of finishes so make sure you buy the desired finish for your specific project.
Liquitex is a good middle-of-the-road brand that covers well. You do not need to add water, you can put some on a paper plate, or in a plastic container and use it directly. If you do not finish what you have squeezed out of the bottle, then use a lid to cover it for future use.
With white paint, Mod Podge, and floral napkins this is a fun way to transform ordinary bottles into elegant decorative pieces. This creative project adds charm and a personal touch to celebrations or home décor. With just a few materials and some patience, you can turn Prosecco bottles into stunning centerpieces or keepsakes.
