Thanksgiving Care Package Ideas for College Students & Loved Ones

For this Thanksgiving care package, I used my printable Thanksgiving labels to transform a simple shipping box into part of the gift. I’ll show you how to decorate the box, what to put inside and how to create a care package that feels personal from the moment they open it.

What You Need to Make a Thanksgiving Care Package
Putting together a Thanksgiving care package doesn’t require a lot of supplies. Start with a box, add your decorations and then fill it with a combination of treats and small gifts your recipient will actually enjoy.
You’ll need:
- A box or shipping container
- Thanksgiving printable labels or decorations
- Decorative tissue paper or filler
- Favorite snacks and treats
- Small gifts or cozy fall items
- A handwritten card or gratitude noteTape, glue stick or double sided tape, depending on how you attach your printables
The most important part is choosing items specifically for the person receiving the box. The ideas below will give you plenty of inspiration, but you certainly don’t need to use all of them.
Thanksgiving Care Package Printables
One of my favorite parts of making a care package is decorating the inside of the box. Instead of opening an ordinary shipping box, your recipient gets a fun surprise before they even see what’s inside.
I designed several sets of Thanksgiving care package printables in different fall color palettes and styles. The labels can be printed at home, cut out and attached to the inside flaps of your box.

How to Size the Printable Labels
I originally sized the flap labels to fit a medium USPS Flat Rate Box.
If you’re using a large Flat Rate Box, you can center the printable on the flap and fill the remaining area with white paper or coordinating printed paper.
You can also resize the printables for another shipping box you already have at home. Don’t feel like you have to use a specific box. Work with what you have and adjust the print size as needed.

Choosing a Box for Your Thanksgiving Care Package
You can use a USPS box or reuse a sturdy shipping box you already have at home.If you use USPS Flat Rate packaging, choose the size that works best for what you plan to send. My printable Thanksgiving labels were designed around Flat Rate box dimensions, but the designs can be resized to work with other boxes.
My original printable sizes are:
- Large flap: approximately 11 3/4 to 12 inches by 6 inches
- Medium rectangular flaps: approximately 10 3/4 by 4 1/4 inches and 8 1/4 by 4 1/4 inches
- Small: approximately 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches
If you’re mailing your care package, always check current USPS packaging requirements and rates before shipping.
Check Shipping Restrictions Before Packing Your Box
Before buying everything for your care package, check the current USPS shipping restrictions for anything that could have special mailing requirements.
I was surprised when I first researched this and discovered that everyday products such as perfume and nail polish can have mailing restrictions. USPS shipping restrictions.
How to Decorate Your Thanksgiving Care Package Box
Start by decorating the box before adding your gifts.
Print your Thanksgiving care package labels and cut them to size. You can print them onto sticker paper and attach them directly to the flaps, or print them on regular paper or cardstock and attach them with a glue stick or double sided tape.
My printable sets also include coordinating patterned paper that you can use to cover additional areas inside the box.
This is where you can get creative. Your box doesn’t have to look exactly like mine. Mix the prints, add a handwritten message or use your recipient’s favorite colors to personalize it.
What Paper Should You Use for Care Package Printables?
There are several options depending on what you already have at home.
Printable sticker paper: This is probably the easiest option. Print, cut and stick the labels directly onto the box.
Cardstock: This works especially well for header cards and pieces that need a little more structure.
Regular printer paper: You absolutely can use regular paper. Print the design, cut it out and attach it with a glue stick or double sided tape.
My cardstock hack: No cardstock? Glue your printed design onto a second sheet of blank paper before cutting it out. The extra layer gives the printable more weight and structure.
- Printable White Sticker Paper– Perfect to use with your printer, once printed, cut to size, and stick on!
- Cardstock paper– use this for the header cards so they can hold your zip lock tops, just print them, then use some glue stick or double-sided tape
- Regular print paper– yep, you can also use this! Again, please print them and use either a glue stick or double-sided tape
CARD STOCK HACK: No card stock on hand? easy! Take your printable and glue it to another piece of blank paper. Then cut out your printable. There you have it, a thicker printable label.
Once the inside of your box is decorated, you’re ready for the fun part: filling it!
